Monday's Homework

Math - EXTRA HELP TUESDAY 8:15am (meet behind the school-please do not buzz, wait until I arrive)
Unit Test - Wednesday

1. Plot the ordered pairs A(-4,6), B(-6,3) and C(-2,2) on a properly labelled cartesian co-ordinate system. Connect the points to form triangle ABC.

2. Rotate each point 90 degrees clockwise (CW) around the origin.
3. Show that the angle between A and A' is 90 degrees.
4. Show, by measuring, that the distance between A and the origin is the same as the distance between A' and the origin.
5. Do the same for points B/B' and C/C'.

Geography -

Watch "The Story of Stuff" (8minutes to 17 minutes) and complete the following questions. Type or write neatly. Be sure to answer EXACTLY what the questions ask. Due Tuesday.

2. 2. Explain what is meant by stewardship. (11:30 in the video)

3. 3. Explain, in your own words, what planned obsolescence means. Describe one example of this.

4. 4. Explain, in your own words, what perceived obsolescence means. Describe one example of this.

5. 5. On average, how many advertisements are we exposed to each day?

6. 6. Explain what is meant by the phrase “work, watch, spend, treadmill.” (16:35)

Homework for the Weekend

Math - Unit Test on Transformations next wednesday
- extra help - tuesday 8:15 am

Question #1
1.On a properly labeled Cartesian co-ordinate system, draw an irregular polygon in quadrant two and label it properly.
2.Use the origin (0,0) as your center of rotation.
3.Rotate your polygon 68 degrees CW. Label the image properly.
4.Explain your method.

Question #2
1.On a properly labeled Cartesian co-ordinate system, plot the following points and label them properly. (4,2) B(7,3) C (3,6) Connect them to make a shape.
2.Reflect this shape across the line AB - A(7,-5) B(-7,5)
2. Use the origin (0,0) as your center of rotation.
3. Rotate the image 125 degrees CCW.
4. Explain your method.

Question #3
a) Draw a trapezoid in quadrant four of a co-ordinate system. Reflect it across the x-axis. Reflect the image across the y-axis. Label properly.
Question #4

Geography Unit Test Monday - Chapter 7
-Complete all questions posted yesterday
-review key concepts

English - Practice writing an introduction (if you need to)

Have two thesis statements completed, as well as the questions below.

From Thursday:
1.What elements (parts/things) could be included in a strong introduction for a persuasive essay?
2.Choose one topic (that you have not chosen before) and make a t-chart of pros and cons. Try to think of as many arguments for and against as you can.
a)Should uniforms be mandatory in public schools?
b)Should laptops be allowed in the classroom?
c)Should elementary school students and their families be allowed to choose which subjects a student learns?
d)Should elementary schools allow corporate sponsorship to provide money for better resources and equipment?
e)Should elementary school classes begin later in the day?

3. Try to write a thesis statement for your essay.
Example: Due to the fact that it is very expensive, difficult to install and not really needed in the summertime, since students are not even at school, I do not think (I do not feel/it would be a bad decision for) that Willowdale Middle School should use Geothermal energy for heating and cooling.
4. Try to write an introduction for your essay.

From Friday:

a) Should cigarettes be illegal?
b) Should the driving age be increased?
c) Should middle school classes be separated by gender ?
d) Should non-organic farming be banned?
e) Should it be mandatory that food labels tells us exactly how and where produce and animals were grown?
f) Should junk food be banned in schools?
g) Another topic of your choice.

1. Choose a topic and make a t-chart of pros and cons.
2. Circle your strongest three pros and strongest three cons, then decide which side your would take for a persuasive essay.
3.Write a thesis statement using the three points you have chosen from your t-chart.
4.Try to write an introduction for the topic chosen.

Connect the points and rotate this shape 270 degrees CW, using the origin (o,0) as your center of rotation (fixed point).

Label the pre-image and image properly.
Reflect the image across the x-axis and label it properly.

Wednesday's Homework

Math - make sure your understand the questions from class posted below.

1.What is a synonym for rotation?
2.How many degrees are in one full rotation, one quarter rotation, one half rotation and three quarters of a rotation?
3.Make a drawing to show the difference between rotating CLOCKWISE(CW) and counterclockwise (CCW).
4.Explain what is meant by a fixed point? What are three different locations that a fixed point be found.
5.Explain what is meant by a center of rotation.
6.On a properly labeled Cartesian co-ordinate system, draw an isosceles triangle in quadrant four and label it properly.
7.Rotate your isosceles triangle 90 degree (CW) using ANY VERTEX as your fixed point and label it properly. Rotate the resulting image 180 degrees (CW) around the same vertex and label it properly. Rotate the second image 270(CW) degrees and label it properly.

Answer the following three questions:
1. a) Draw a Cartesian Co-ordinate System and label it properly (x and y-axis, arrowheads). In quadrant number three, draw a trapezoid and label it properly.
1. b) Rotate your trapezoid around ANY VERTEX by 270 degrees CCW. Label the image properly. Use scrap paper to trace the shape, if it helps you.
2. a) Draw another cartesian co-ordinate system and label it properly. In quadrant number one, draw a hexagon and label it.
2. b) Choose any point INSIDE the hexgon, but not the center, and rotate the shape 180 degrees CW. Label the image properly.
2. c) Reflect the image from question 2b) across the y-axis. Label it properly.
