English - Poetic Devices Test Monday - You will be given a poem and must determine which poetic devices are used by the author and explain how you know. You will also determine the main idea/message or theme of the poem.

English - Create two poems of your own. Each poem MUST include at least five poetic devices. One must be a specific form of poetry that you have not tried in the past (haiku, limerick, cinquain, acrostic, quatrain, sonnet, humorous, etc.), the second MUST be free verse poetry (which means there is no set structure to the poem). Your stronger poem will be assessed. You will decide which one this is. Due Monday.

Also, each poetic device must be colour-coded and you should have a legend that matches (ie. blue represents metaphor, so all metaphors in your poem are written in blue). Poems should have a creative title and be presented in an interesting way with appropriate illustrations, drawings, etc. Highest marks will go to "poets" that include original ideas and use the more challenging devices, such as metaphor. Each poem should have a clear theme/topic/message/main idea or moral.

Assessment:
-Both poems are complete
-Obvious or implied message/main idea/theme
-Effective use of 5 or more poetic devices
-Interesting Format (for example images or illustrations that fit the message/theme of the poem)
