Homework for the Weekend

Math

Area Assignment – Due Monday (WHEN YOU ENTER THE CLASSROOM!!!!)
-25 marks total
- Can be handwritten or typed

1. Write the formulas for finding the area of the following shapes: square, rectangle, parallelogram, triangle, trapezoid (use your textbook or internet) and circle (use your planner or internet). (3 marks)

2. Clearly explain, giving specific proof, whether or not a triangle is a parallelogram. (3 marks)

3. Draw any parallelogram, using a ruler. Label it properly with arrows to indicate parallel lines and dashes to indicate sides that are the same length. Draw a line and label it to show which measurement would be the HEIGHT of your parallelogram. Also label the base. (3 marks)

4. Solve for the area of the following shapes. For full marks write the formula, show all work and write out appropriate units.

a) Triangle – Base = 50cm Height = 20cm (3 marks)
b) Parallelogram – Base = 15m Height = 30m (3 marks)

5. What is the perimeter of an equilateral triangle with one side that is 35cm long. Make a formula (ie. P= ________), show your work and briefly explain your answer. (4 marks)

6. The height of a triangle is 60cm and the area is 30 m2 . What is the length of its base. For full marks, clearly show or explain how you got you answer. (4 marks)

7. Explain what a trapezoid is. Draw and properly label one. (2 marks)
