Tuesday's Homework

Math

Explain, in your own words, how to:

1) Find the Mean of a set of Data.
2) Find the Mode from a set of data.
3) Find the Median, if you have an even number of pieces of data.
4) Find the Median if you have an odd number of pieces of data.

This will be checked on wednesday, along with your math homework from monday.

UNIT TEST FOR MATH WILL BE ON FRIDAY!

Geography - Chapter 3 Test will be on Monday. Topics to study will be posted tomorrow or thursday.

Math - Data Management Unit Test will be next Thursday

Geography - Read ALL of chapter 4 (62-87)

Complete the questions below:
1. List the two types of Volcanoes.
2. Draw and label a quick sketch of a Composite Cone Volcano.
3. Which zone of the Earth is magma found in?
4. Where are volcanoes typically formed? What causes them to form?
5. What is meant by the "Pacific Ring of Fire"? Which countries are included?
6. Where and when wdid the most powerful volcanic explosion in history take place?
7. Which island in the mid-atlantic range has several active volcanoes on it? (Hint: use the map on page 72 to help you)
8. List three nations that were almost entirely formed by volcanoes.
9. List the four major Landform Patterns.
10. Approximately how old is the Earth?
11. Many years ago, all of the Earth's continents were joined together. What was the name of this giant mass of land?
12. In your own words, explain what is meant by Plate Tectonics.

Natural Disasters presentations will begin next Wednesday. Work on them, if you need to.

Please arrange interview times with your parents or guardians. Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Math - Work on Data Management Assignment

-Find biased data examples from a newspaper, magazine or online newspaper or magazine and bring them in.

Due Thursday - typed out and glued neatly onto construction paper or bristol board
-You will have class time on wednesday and thursday

Data Management Assignment: Part 1

1.With your partner, design a survey question. Try to focus on opinion-type questions.
2.Decide upon a sample group that you feel will give you BIASED results. Clearly explain why the sample group chosen would give you BIASED results.

3. Use any form of graph or chart that you are familiar with (ie. stem-leaf, frequency table, bar graph, pie chart) to show the PREDICTED RESULTS of your survey question, if you ask the BIASED sample group. Properly label and title your graph. You may use Microsoft Excel to make the graph, if you wish.

4.With your partner, decide upon a way, or several ways, to change the sample group, question, or both, to make it AS UNBIASED AS POSSIBLE. BE VERY SPECIFIC about your changes.
5.Explain, in detail, how the changes made in question #4 will make your results UNBIASED or LESS BIASED.
6.Draw another graph or chart representing the results you predict for your unbiased question and sample group.
